Uptown is a primarily residential area in New Orleans where you will find some of the most grandiose of homes and some of the most quaint, modest shotgun and camelback homes from the 19th century. Tucked amongst the architecturally beautiful homes you will find many small scale restaurants and shops full of character and history. There are numerous areas uptown that seem like small villages centered around one main street. Most of these neighborhoods now host their own festivals, farmers markets, and art fairs. Freret Street, Oak Street, Maple Street, and Magazine Street are just naming a few. Making its own music and adding even more charm to the area are the streetcars that occasionally hum past you. Everything Uptown is just a short streetcar ride away, Audubon Park, shopping, art galleries, antiques, and great food. Streetcars can also deliver you to Mid City, City Park, the Warehouse District, Downtown, the French Quarter, and the Riverfront.
